Nintendo Says GTA VI on Switch 2 Is Rockstar's Call, Not Nintendo's

Nintendo of America president Devon Pritchard says a GTA VI version for the Switch 2 is a conversation for Rockstar and Take-Two, with nothing to announce from Nintendo. The confirmed platform list has not changed.

Nintendo's president was asked the question fans keep asking, and the answer was the one platform holders give when they are not the ones holding the pen. Nintendo of America president Devon Pritchard told Variety that a GTA VI release on the Switch 2 is "going to be a conversation for Take Two and Rockstar, but nothing to announce on my end at this time."

That is a non-answer, and it is worth being precise about what it does and does not say. Pritchard did not rule out a Switch 2 version. She did not confirm one. She did not hint at a timeline, an internal build, or a deal. What she said is that the decision sits with Rockstar and its parent company, not with Nintendo, and that as of this interview there is nothing to tell.

The reason the question keeps coming up is obvious. Variety's own framing is that the Switch 2 has the horsepower to host an M-rated game of this size, and a launch this large invites the same speculation every major release attracts about the platforms it might eventually reach. Fans have spent weeks reading tea leaves about a port. Variety asked directly. The tea leaves did not move.

So where does the confirmed picture actually stand? Rockstar and Take-Two have locked GTA VI to PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X and S for November 19, 2026. There is no announced Switch 2 version, no announced PC version, and no date attached to either. That is not a gap in the reporting. It is the boundary Rockstar has drawn, and it has not changed.

The useful way to read Pritchard's line is as a platform boundary, not a tease. "Nothing to announce on my end" is the standard phrasing a hardware maker uses when the software decision is not theirs to make. If a Switch 2 version ever happens, the announcement will come from Rockstar or Take-Two first, because they own the game. Nintendo's president saying she has nothing to add is consistent with how a port would actually be revealed: not by the console maker, and not before the publisher decides.

That leaves the same open question fans have had since the release date was confirmed. GTA VI ships on two console families on November 19. Everything else, Switch 2 included, is unannounced. Next Vice is treating the Switch 2 thread as a watch item, not a rumor, until Rockstar or Take-Two says otherwise.

Source note: This article is built on Nintendo of America president Devon Pritchard's October 9, 2026 interview with Variety, as reported and quoted by Nintendo Life and carried across GameSpot, Kotaku, IGN, and Insider Gaming. The confirmed platform facts come from Rockstar's and Take-Two's official GTA VI material and the November 19, 2026 release date. Nintendo did not confirm a Switch 2 version, and no Switch 2 or PC release date exists as of publication.
